Legislature proposes rule change

Posted: Updated:

Nebraska lawmakers finalize loose ends in the Nebraska legislature before they begin debating bills.

The permanent rules for this legislative session was unanimously adopted.

However Omaha Senator Scott Lautenbaugh wants lawmakers to consider making a change in the future.

He doesn't feel the current mandates for senators to sit in on daily committee meetings is necessary.

"I'm also not sure where it's written where every senator must have a committee assignment every afternoon. If we consolidated some of the committees, maybe lengthened some of the days that some of them meet that have the heavier burden of bills, there could be a scenario where you don't all have a committee every day," says Lautenbaugh.

This proposed rule change could not take effect until the legislative session that would begin in 2015.
