$30,000 grant given to help Panhandle families

Posted: Updated:

The Panhandle region has been awarded a large grant, to continuing helping families in need.

The grant of almost $30,000 has been made available through federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program to CAPWN.

Assistant Community Director Carmen Trevino says most of this money goes directly to people in the area who are  in need of assistance with rent, mortgage and utilities.

"With the addition of this money which we're very, very grateful for, we're able to help a wider range of individuals, especially in our outlying areas, where money is very, very scarce," says Trevino.

Trevino says non–profit organizations are also encouraged to apply for funding, if they are using the money to help with things such as rent.
