Longtime Nebraska health official leaving for new job

One of Nebraska's health officials is stepping down to take a new job.

Dr Joann Schaefer served as Nebraska's chief medical officer and the Director of the Department of Health and Human Service's Division of Public Health.

She will now work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Omaha as a Vice President.

Schaefer was appointed to the previous position by Governor Heineman in 2005 and has practiced family medicine and also served as a professor at Creighton's Medical School.

Her last day serving on Governor Heineman's cabinet will be March 8th.
