Bill could prevent your employer from invading your social networking privacy

Posted: Updated:

Lawmakers set a hearing for a new bill, for people's social networking accounts.

The bill would stop bosses from demanding access to private information for their employees' Facebook or Twitter accounts.

The bill, by Senator Tyson Larson, will make it illegal for employers or potential employers to request the private information.

The bill will also ban employers from demanding passwords or accessing an account through a third party.

The Legislature's Business and Labor Committee will have a hearing on the proposal tomorrow.

Kira Winters says she thinks the bill is a good step in the right direction.

"I think that your boss should be able to look at your Facebook, but not your private information. Because you shouldn't be putting up inappropriate things on your Facebook anyways, but they shouldn't be able to look at your private information because that's private."

The law wouldn't apply to the information employees post in the public domain.
