Nebraska's longest serving senator back in action

Posted: Updated:

After a four year hiatus from the legislative floor, Senator Ernie Chambers is eager to let his colleagues know that he's back.

This morning, the veteran senator began his 39th year in the Unicameral after being "rudely interrupted by term limits".

Today was the first day of floor debate on legislative bills. Senator Chambers offered advice to the newly elected state legislators.  "We have an obligation to participate in the activities in the legislature," says the District 11 Senator. "The fact that we are newly here does not mean we have less status, less right, or fewer prerogatives than those who have been here forever."

Chambers was ousted from office after senators enacted term-limits, but was re-elected this past November.
