Governor and Nebraskans trying to figure out next move following Sheehy's resignation

Posted: Updated:

Former Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy's resignation leaves Governor Dave Heineman with a tough decision to make.

Sheehy resigned after being questioned about phone calls to four women during the past four years on his state issued cell phone. His wife Connie filed for divorce last July after being married for 29 years.

The Lieutenant was endorsed by Heineman, but now the governor will have to choose a replacement.

Heineman says his search started today and he'll appoint a new Lieutenant Governor in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Sheehy's abrupt resignation leaves Nebraskans with some unanswered questions.

Some locals say the resignation was necessary, but he should've come clean sooner.

John Alsidz says he thinks people in positions of authority should be held to a higher standard.

Alsidz says Sheehy's actions paint a bad picture of who's leading Nebraska, and when something as controversial as this happens, people will judge.

"If you look at somebody like that, you judge them by what they're doing,"  says Alsidz. "And when they're doing the opposite, it's like why should I even bother with you."

Alsidz says he's interested to find out who Heineman picks to replace Sheehy.
