Nebraska Governor, Dave Heineman, is urging kids from the panhandle to join
the Governor's Youth Advisory Council.
The group provides a civic opportunity for teens to explore the legislative
process and the role of the executive branch.
Up to 25 youth can serve on the council with equal representation from each
legislative district.
Currently the furthest west representative is from Kearney.
During this afternoon's press conference, Heineman says there are seven
vacancies on the council, and wants more teens from the western 2/3 of the
state.
"Perhaps the most important role of the council," says
Heineman, "involves their responsibility to represent youth from
their economic, cultural and geographical backgrounds in discussions about
important issues."
