City Manager Rick Kukkahn hopes one measure will finally take effect in the next few months.
The long awaited quiet zone measure through Scottsbluff is close to becoming a reality. The measure would prevent all trains passing through Scottsbluff and Gering to silence their horns throughout the day and night.
Kukkahn says this is a personal issue for him because he views it as a disturbance. He says it takes a while to get all the sides on board at the railroad companies but he's happy to see this issue close to being completed.
"I think there's a general excitement, there's a certain impatience because its taken so long and I think a credit to the community that they've been patient and kind of waiting for this and certainly we've had pressure to get it done and we've felt that internally, I want this to happen personally," says Kukkahn.
Kukkahn says a few repairs had to be made with a few crossings, another reason for the amount of time it has taken.
