New "Journey Stories" exhibit brings historical education to Alliance

Posted: Updated:

The city of Alliance turns 125 this year.

And for the next few weeks, locals will have an opportunity to learn more about the area's rich history through a Exhibit called "Journey Stories."

"This is a wonderful opportunity to explain to people, that everybody moved from somewhere," Museum Director, Becci Thomas said.

The "Journey Stories" exhibit shows how people moved to America or across America, starting with the pilgrims and ending with modern immigrants.

"Nobody started out here in Alliance, even though this is our 125th year, which we're very proud of. Every family here came from somewhere else," Thomas said.

To kick off the exhibit the museum held a two day mini conference.

Thomas says the visitors really enjoy the new exhibit and it gives people the chance to see something they may not be able to see without traveling to the Smithsonian.

"The kids seem very receptive to it, there's a lot of interactive," Thomas said.

With buttons, accessories and hands on activities, Thomas says the interaction makes history more exciting and descriptive for the kids.

"We want them to see the museum as an exciting place to come visit," Thomas said.

An opportunity to take a step back in time.

"Not only step back in time and see something from a different era or another generation, but get a little feel for themselves, this is their history this is their museum," Thomas said.
