A KOTA Territory high school's students focus on leadership.
Hemingford High School's Student Council organizes two activities each month.
One of these activities has to be service based that helps out the community. The other activity is for the school's improvement.
One of their recent projects was "The Den". The student council changed the auditorium stage to be a hang out area for sporting events.
Both student council participants -and their advisors- agree their ultimate goal is leadership.
"I want them to be dependable people," says Advisor Kay Horstman. "I want them to be called on, I want them to be able to communicate not with just their peers, but with adults."
"Because that shows I'm ready to as a senior," says Jayleen Forgey. "It shows that I'm ready to go out, go to college and be on my own, take care of myself."
Horstman says she's seen the students go on to do big things in the community and after they leave Hemingford.
