Obama's proposal to expand preschool affecting the Panhandle

Another issue the President plans to address is preschool education, but a KOTA territory town is already ahead of the game.

Obama is stressing the importance of getting a good start in preschool and wants to make it more accessible.

In Scottsbluff, schools have been working over the last year to do the same thing.

Scottsbluff School District's Director of Student Services, Wendy Kemling, says a good education starts in preschool.

She says it's important for students to get a good start there, so they can continue the rest of their schooling with success.

"So by having it within our district we're able to take what we teach in kindergarten and bring it down to the preschool level, so there's a seamless transition from preschool to kindergarten," says Kemling.

Kemling says another change, designed to give more students access to a quality program, is in the works.
