Heineman asks Legislature to kill two of his tax proposals

Posted: Updated:

Nebraska's Governor asks Legislature to kill two of his own proposals.

Today Heineman says he's asked the Revenue Committee's Chairman to postpone the tax proposals he made during his State of the State Address.

The bills would've eliminated Nebraska's income tax.

The Governor says he wants to kill the proposals so lawmakers can start a new discussion about Nebraska's tax climate.

Farm groups, hospitals and manufacturers who would lose sales tax exemptions in the process were up in arms about the bills.

Heineman says he wants to pay attention to those groups and slow down the discussion.

The committee will hold hearings across the state for input on how to make Nebraska's tax system more modern.
