Indian Center holds Powwow, brings dancing and singing

Posted: Updated:

People across the Panhandle got the chance to learn about Native American culture today.

The Indian Center of Scottsbluff held a Pow Wow designed to help grow a sense of pride in young Native Americans.

Throughout the day, events included singing, dancing and crafts.   Event Organizer Jina Red Nest says that events like these help the youth feel connected to their culture and help them learn where they come from.

Red Nest says after today, she hopes that some of the activities help shed light on some of the problems affecting the Native American population, like suicide rates and depression.

"Part of our outreach, information that I want to get out to the public, it could lead to a lot of things, I mean, bad behavior, they just don't know what to do, where they're coming from and where they're going," says Red Nest.

Red Nest says this event is a way for the community to come out and show their support for Native American youth.
