Nebraska DHHS costs tax payers more than $1.8 million

Posted: Updated:

The Nebraska department of health and human services has cost the state more than 1.8 million dollars.

State Auditor, Mike Foley, says that a state adoption assistance program failed to seek federal reimbursement during a five-year grace period.

The issue came to light when Foley's team was auditing the federal program.

State auditors say the department has failed to collect more than $1.8 million dollars in federal government reimbursement.

As a result the costs were pushed onto state tax payers.
