Scottsbluff decides against law enforcement consolidation

One KOTA Territory City Council decides against consolidating law enforcement agencies while searching for a new police chief.

Last night, the Scottsbluff City Council decided against consolidating police agencies with the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department.

Both councils have discussed consolidation options in the past. But for now, Scottsbluff police agencies will maintain their current separation and hierarchy's.

Scottsbluff Mayor Randy Meininger says they have confidence that the two police departments and the Sheriff's office will continue to work well with one another.

"I'm proud of our police department," says Meininger.  "I think you guys have stepped up to the plate and are doing a great job, and I have no issues. I think Sheriff Overman is doing a great job and I hear nothing but good of our two departments working together."

City officials say it will be at least two months before they are ready to hire a new police chief.
