Sheriff's request for new cars denied by County Commissioners

A commissioners meeting leaves the Sheriff's department empty handed.

Scotts Bluff County Commissioners held an open hearing last night regarding the Sheriff's Department's purchase of two new patrol cars.

The commissioners voiced they were grateful the Sheriff's Department saved money last year. but they were split over the new car purchases.

Sheriff Mark Overman says the department saved $45,000.00 from insurance by not fixing two of their patrol cars damaged by hail.

"My job is to hire and retain good deputies, and train them and give them the equipment they need and the training that they need, support they need," Overman said.

The board voted on allowing the purchase with the insurance funds without changing the budget and the motion failed.
