Staff from one KOTA Territory bean elevator is making a push to bring a new cash crop to the valley.
Stateline Bean is expanding to become a dry edible *pea* processor and marketer for the region.
They are in the midst of a membership drive to get growers to start planting pea seeds in late March.
Business Development Manager Courtney Schuler says there is a lot of excitement about a new cash crop for the region. "This is typically a dryland crop," says Schuler. "It is planted to replace summer fallow, so growers can potentially add another cash crop to their farming rotations."
The 2013 pea crop is expected to be harvested sometime in mid - July... And if the yields are solid, Stateline hopes to expand the number of acres planted for the next growing season.
