Nebraska lawmaker wants voters to approve casino gambling

A Nebraska lawmaker wants to ask voters to approve casino gambling.

Senator Paul Schumacher wants voters to decide whether the legislature should have the power to authorize casino gambling.

Last time citizens weighed in on the issue in 2004, they voted against the proposal to allow state–wide casinos.

Nebraska allows KENO, horse racing and the lottery, but has resisted video gambling and casinos.

Bar patron, Larry Fitzgibbon, thinks that casinos are a very beneficial way to bring more revenue to the state but he doesn't think the decision comes without consequence.

"It would be, probably, detrimental for some of us that like to gamble," says Fitzgibbon.

He believes the pros of allowing casino's in Nebraska out weigh the cons, though.

If approved, Senator Schumacher's constitutional amendment would place the question before voters in 2014.
