Fischer takes a stance on sequestration

Posted: Updated:

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer says that if Congress cannot find a way to reduce spending, Americans will have no faith that our country will ever see a balanced budget.

The Nebraska republican says budget cuts need to happen and *will* happen. But in order to do so, Congress needs to make those cuts in a responsible manner and set responsible priorities.

Today marks the 1400th day since the senate passed a budget. Fischer says it's a sad milestone, but it's one that also serves as an important reminder.

"Because without a budget," says Fischer, "We risk continuing the cycle of short term fixes or financial crisis that are devastating our country's long term economic security."

Fischer notes that the sequestration's sole purpose is to cut spending, and not to raise taxes.
