KOTA Territory vet techs help make impact on World Spay Day

Posted: Updated:

A group of veterinary technicians from one KOTA Territory college help make an impact on World Spay Day.

Every year on the last Tuesday in February is Spay Day.

The goal is to promote the importance of spaying and neutering animals by offering discounted costs for the procedures.

At the Animal Health Center, Spay Day is so successful that it's extended to the month of March.

To help deal with the volume of surgical procedures during this time, veterinary technician students from Eastern Wyoming College are putting in hours.

Ragone says last year they fixed around 200 animals and this year they expect about the same.

"We've been doing this for 19 years," says Ragone.  "So we'd like to think that by spaying and neutering all those animals through the years that we have reduced pet over population."

Ragone says while they can't eliminate the problem, raising awareness is the next best thing.
