Woman arrested for biting Sheriff Deputy

Posted: Updated:

A woman is behind bars after biting a sheriff's deputy at a Scottsbluff hospital.

On Saturday, Deputy Robert Hackett with the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to assist with a child abuse case at Regional West Medical Center.

Investigator Holcomb asked 27-year-old Desiree Rice if she had any contact with the suspect of child abuse. She had texted him, and Holcomb said he needed to see the messages himself.

The investigator then tried to seize her phone because it could contain evidence for a criminal case.

Deputy Hackett tried to calm down Rice, and she bit him on the forearm and kicked him in the stomach.

Rice was then placed under arrest and transported to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.

She is charged with assault on a officer, obstruction of an officer, and tampering with physical evidence.

An arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 Monday afternoon in Scotts Bluff County Court.
