Bill would reduce minimum wait time between KENO games

A KENO parlor owner in KOTA Territory says he supports a bill that would let gamblers play more KENO games in an hour.

Nebraska law makers advanced a bill that would reduce the minimum waiting time between KENO games from five minutes to three.

The bill, introduced by Senator Russ Karpisek, would generate an estimated $408,000 for the state's general fund.

Gambling opponents say the bill will take advantage of the poor and those prone to gambling addictions.

But other people are talking about the bill's potential benefits.

"It's something that would help our local communities," says Andy Clarkson, owner of Lucky Keno in Scottsbluff.  "We do purchase a lot with KENO funds. From police cruisers and police dogs, to, basically anything that's considered community betterment."

Profits from player losses are shared by local bar owners, cities and the state.
