Train fatalities bring safety reminder to Scotts Bluff

With the recent train fatalities in KOTA Territory, comes a reminder to stay safe.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Representative, Andy Williams says after a train fatality like this weekend's, the railroad offers the train crew access to trauma relief programs.

The B.N.S.F offers peer counseling, as well as professional help for conductors and engineers if needed.

Operation Lifesaver works with the railroads to reduce train accidents by educating the public about railroads and safety.

Carol Daley, with Operation Lifesaver reminds people if you're on the tracks or beyond the barriers, you're trespassing and you could be arrested.

"It is becoming a big concern in a lot of different states, people walking on the tracks, you know it's not like the olden days where that's what they always did," Daley said.

Daley says they do outreach in schools to teach kids that railroads aren't to be played with.
