District 12 Probation starts small reporting center

Posted: Updated:

A KOTA Territory county has a new reporting center for people on probation.

The District 12 Probation Office was given contracts by the Nebraska Supreme Court for a Reporting Center, but the county doesn't have the funds to build it.

Chief Probation Officer Linda Beuhler presented a new idea to Scotts Bluff County Commissioners at last nights meeting.

Beuhler asked commissioners to let her start up the center in a small way, by allowing small meetings in the commissioner's room after business hours.

The commissioners had safety concerns but chose to allow the center's small start up.

Beuhler says doing starting out small ensures the state they're serious about the center.

"Just what I would like to do is start this up in a very small way, it was one of the proposals I gave at a past meeting and I think this would just be the way to go," Beuhler said.

Had the county not approved the small start up, these funds could've gone to another county's reporting center start up.
