Senator John Harms says investing in our children is investing in the future of Nebraska, thus proposing a bill which will do just that.
The Senator introduced a bill that would increase state grant funds for early childhood education.
Currently the state gives $1.5 million annually.
Harms says an estimated 30,000 children from birth to age three, are more at risk because their families' poverty.
The University of Nebraska's Lincoln Extension Center Educator, Jackie Guzman runs their Childhood Development Program. She says starting education earlier is better.
"They are able to better regulate their own behaviors, and recognize behaviors in other children and are able to be better students," Guzman said.
The Appropriations Committee will consider Harms' bill after the public hearings on budget issues are over.
