A former democratic candidate for governor is considering another run for office in Nebraska.
Democrat Mike Meister says he is thinking about running for Governor, the Legislature, or U.S. Senate.
Meister won more than 25 percent of the popular vote during the 2010 gubernatorial election, but lost to Governor Dave Heineman.
Heineman and Scottsbluff Senator John Harms are facing term limits, and Mike Johanns is not seeking re-election.
With all those factors in play, Meister has formed an exploratory committee to see where he might be a good fit.
"So you got all these very strange currents going on," says Meister, who spoke to KOTA Territory News on Wednesday. "And I have been wanting to get into public service for several years now and I think it's the right opportunity and right time right now to explore my options. So I'm going to explore my options."
Meister says he has already begun fundraising efforts for if and when he decides to run for an elected position.
Meister also says that if Attorney General Jon Bruning ends up filing for a different public office, he would likely file to fill Bruning's current seat.
