Changes may soon be in place for ag producers for usage of water allocation in the North Platte Natural Resource District.
The board met yesterday to talk about the proposal that would extend the current allocation period from 4 years to 5 years. An additional 14 inches of water would be allotted for that 5th year.
That would mean that during a five year period, ag producers would have 70 inches of water for their farm or ranch.
Before anything is enacted, the N.R.D. has to amend its integrated management plan with the Department of Natural Resources District.
Before the rules and regulations are amended, a series of public hearings need to be held.
N.P.N.R.D. director Ron Cacek says that he thinks the first public hearing will be held sometime in early April.
