County Commissioners grant Sheriff's request for a new patrol car purchase

Posted: Updated:

A panhandle sheriff's office will be getting some new equipment.

Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman, asked County Commissioners to approve the purchase of two new patrol cars.

Overman says the department saved $45,000 from insurance by not fixing two hail damaged patrol cars.

Both cars had more than 100,000 miles on them and Overman says they're pretty worn out.

At the commissioner's meeting this week, the board approved the purchase of one new patrol car with the leftover insurance money.

"Well, I think my job is to get the deputy sheriffs the training and equipment they need to do their job," Overman said.

Overman says he was thankful the board approved the request and hopes they can get the other car replaced next year.
