Steps are being made to evaluate Nebraska's tax code, to attract potential businesses.
The bill was advanced to full Legislature to authorize a comprehensive study of Nebraska's tax system.
The bill would set up a twelve member Tax Modernization Committee of lawmakers.
The eight members on the Revenue Committee would be included.
The group will then comprise a report for possible tax reforms by December.
The focus of the tax reforms is to make Nebraska a more attractive tax state for current and potential businesses.
"Let's face it, our tax code is broken. Not just our energy policy but our tax code is broken, and this is an opportunity on a non partisan basis to address our tax code," Congressman Adrian Smith said.
The tax comes after Governor Dave Heineman's call for the legislature to eliminate all state income taxes.
