Severe Weather Spotter Training Class brings education to amateurs

Severe weather can catch you off guard, but a panhandle training program can get you prepared.

Region 22's Emergency Management Director, Jerry Bretthauer says the Emergency Management Team is hosting a Severe Weather Spotter Training Class.

The class coincides with Severe Weather Awareness week, and will be held March 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the Harms center at Western Nebraska Community College.

People who take the class will get a Severe Weather Spotter certificate.

Bretthauer says it's a great idea for people with an interest in severe weather.

"What that training really does for you is makes you aware of the tornado, plus if you see something out here that looks like a tornado and you tell the communications center you're a certified weather spotter, they're going to give more credence to you," Bretthauer said.
