And, a bill introduced on Capitol Hill, would raise minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.
A dollar more than what President Barack Obama proposed in his State of the Union Address.
Some business owners in the panhandle support the move.
Bill James owns 'Nutters Bulk and Natural Foods' in Scottsbluff, and he says he wouldn't mind seeing minimum wage increase.
"Well my thoughts are minimum wage should increase," says James. "Because the $10.10 is not the bottom line. If minimum wage had increased to the rate of inflation, we'd probably be well above that now. People need to be able to make enough money to pay their bills."
James says that he currently pays his employees *more than* minimum wage.
Iowa Senator Tom Harkin and California Representative George Miller say their bill would help lift millions of workers out of poverty and boost the economy.
