A KOTA Territory man who was in the process of putting up a fence, digs up an unexpected artifact.
Homeowner Don Carr says he was digging post holes, when his shovel hit something in the ground.
After further digging, Carr found a head stone looking piece of rock underneath the west side of his property.
With the Mormon Trail nearby, Carr did some investigating to see if the stone he found beared any resemblance to Wyoming's Register Cliff Stones.
"My shovel hit something hard, I thought it was just a big rock and I'm in my late 40's, my eyesight isn't quite as good as it used to be, but anyhow I got to digging around and I could see writing on it," Carr said.
Carr says he contacted the University of Nebraska and the Nebraska State Historical Society to get a professional opinion.
