State lawmakers are working on a bill that would create a commission to continually review and update Nebraska's tax code.
Legislative Bill 613 would establish the tax modernization commission. The commission would recommend updates to the existing tax code in response to changing economies.
Among the issues it would review are the fairness, competitiveness and stability of the code.
Bill introducer Senator Paul Schumacher hopes this legislation that will fix a tax system that many feel is outdated."And hopefully, we'll put this state on a track of a good tax policy, in spite of the fact we all hate taxes.
The legislature failed to reach a vote on Monday on the bill, which would launch a comprehensive study of Nebraska's tax climate.
