An elementary school merger has parents asking the Gering School District to reconsider.
Monday, the Gering School Board announced plans to change Cedar Canyon to a K through fourth grade school.
The change would move Cedar Canyon's fifth and sixth graders to Lincoln Elementary.
Parent Jenni Castro says she was completely surprised when she heard the news.
Castro has two sons at Cedar Canyon Elementary, one in second grade and one in fourth grade.
The mother of two says having her sons at the same school is important.
And she chose Cedar Canyon because of the small classroom sizes.
"I pray that the executives would have a change of heart and change their decision," Castro said.
Castro says she is most upset with the lack of communication to parents concerning the merger.
