Problem gambling plaguing Nebraskans

Posted: Updated:

March is gambling awareness month, and Nebraska's Director of Behavior Health Services wants to make sure problem gamblers don't face *madness* as the NCAA tournament kicks off.

Problem gambling is a big concern for many people in Nebraska, especially as March Madness gets into full swing.

Scot Adams says that for most, gambling is something that can be done for fun. But for 55,000 thousand Nebraskans and their families, gambling is a serious issue.

Problem gambling is classified as a behavioral addiction, and experts want people who need help to go out and seek it.

"March Madness and other key sporting events bring out gambling to a peak," says Adams. "So March Madness is a natural time for us to want to talk about seeking help and becoming more aware of these issues."

Nebraskans who are struggling with their gambling addiction can get free help by calling the Gamblers Assistance Program Hotline at 1 -800- GAMBLER.
