Teens lead police on high speed chase on Saturday

3 local teens are in jail after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase, with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

Sgt. Robert Straub with the Scottsbluff Police Department was patrolling Avenue B early Saturday morning, and tried to pull over a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The car fled, and eventually headed towards Highway 26.

While pursing the vehicle, the car reached speeds of 105 miles per hour, including going 65 miles per hour through Mitchell. After reaching Morrill, the car turned around and headed back towards Scottsbluff.

On the west end of Mitchell, a Scotts Bluff County Deputy deployed spike strips, and deflated the tires. The car continued to drive, and finally came to a stop.

The driver, 15-year-old Guy Eagle Elk, was arrested.

He is charged with willful reckless driving, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, flight to avoid arrest, and possession of narcotic equipment, and no operators license.

Also arrested were Austyn Kuklish and Jose Lazoya, who were passengers in the vehicle.
