Business owners voice concerns about Scottsbluff road project

Posted: Updated:

A road project that is slated to begin this month in downtown Scottsbluff has some business owners fearing for the worst.

In the coming months, stop lights and parallel parking will be a thing of the past for Broadway.

That means that traffic be able to cruise right through downtown, and zip past downtown businesses.

This is a concern for shop owners like Kolene Woodward, who owns Cappuccino and Co.

She says tearing up the road in front of her shop *will* hurt sales. She's also concerned for the safety of pedestrians crossing the road after stop lights are torn out.

"I feel the other things they are doing will actually kill any type of revitalization for downtown and will actually make us a ghost town," explains Woodward. "And I really fear for that. I fear for what it will do for our economy down here and what it will do to the flow of traffic and pedestrians."

A meeting to discuss the impact of the road project is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Midwest Theater.

Woodward encourages all downtown business owners to attend and voice their concerns.
