Alliance Rifle Club members demonstrating responsible gun ownership

Posted: Updated:

With gun control issues on the forefront members of a panhandle rifle club want to highlight responsible gun ownership.

Guy Hielscher President of the Alliance Rifle Club, is a former law enforcement officer.

He and his wife teach concealed carry classes for the club and says membership has seen a big increase this year.

Hielscher says they've also seen a jump in the number of people wanting to get their permit to carry a concealed weapon.

With all the recent gun violence he says criminals are giving responsible gun owners a bad name.

He says unfortunately in today's society people need to be able to take care of and be responsible for themselves.

"There's no way we're ever going to disarm everyone and if we were able to we'd still be taken advantage of by the criminals, because they don't obey the laws to begin with. They have no respect for our laws," Hielscher said.

Hielscher says shooting ranges are a great way for people to have fun yet be responsible at the same time.
