Experts help locals with water management to prepare for summer

Even with the recent snow experts are reminding locals we aren't out of the woods just yet.

The University of Nebraska Lincoln's Panhandle Extension Center teams up with the North Platte Valley Water Association to help locals with water management.

The goal for the meeting is to provide irrigators tools for managing with limited water resources.

Dennis Strauch, Manager of Pathfinder Irrigation District, gave an update on water supply forecasts for irrigation projects.

He says it's important to keep everyone updated on what conditions have changed to give them a better picture of what's going on so they can plan accordingly for summer.

"We want producers to realize 100% snow pack doesn't mean 100% water supply. So we want to get that across to them, so they don't have the misconception that we're all fine now and we can just go on as normal. That's what we're trying to get done today," Strauch said.

Prior to the storms, snow pack was at 75% and dropping, but even with a 100% snow pack, the actual water supply won't be known until June .
