Cash for Cans encourages students to recycle

Posted: Updated:

Elementary students in the southern panhandle are doing their part in keeping Sidney beautiful.
The Cash for Cans contest put on promotes recycling in schools, and helps teach youngsters the importance of recycling.

Keep Sidney Beautiful has set up bins around the city and at each of the 6 six public schools in the area.

A little sweet competition is encouraged for the students, as the school that collects the most cans will be treated to a Dilly Bar ice cream party thrown by Dairy Queen.

Keep Sidney Beautiful Director Cheryl Jones says all the money raised from the cans will go right back into the schools.
"U.S. Recycling, where we take the cans, have them all weighed separately and then they cut a check and those checks are going to the booster clubs which are the parent teacher organizations."
Students have until April 30th to collect as many cans as they can to win that Dilly Bar party.
