Latina Red Dress gathers women from across the Panhandle

Posted: Updated:

The Gering Civic Center transforms into a sea of red, as Latina women from across the panhandle gather for an evening of health-education and entertainment.

The sixth annual Latina Red Dress event brings awareness to health concerns surrounding Latina women.

The evening includes vendors and booths with health information, guest speakers, dinner and door prizes.

This year's event focuses diabetes and breast cancer, because both diseases are big concerns among the female Latina population.

"We just want to emphasize, as far as getting the best medical attention they can, to get preventative treatments before.  we want to get our numbers down for Latina women," says Lisa Escamilla, member of the Latina Red Dress organizing committee.

Escamilla says ticket's for tonight event sold quickly, and she expects that close to 300 women will attend.
