US Senator addresses proposed 2014 budget

Posted: Updated:

This week U.S. Senator Mike Johann's oversees his first hearing as the ranking member of the Senate Appropriates Subcommittee on Financial Services'.

Johanns questions officials from the Internal Revenue Services about President Obama's proposed budget for the 2014 fiscal year.

Johanns acknowledges the budget's small move toward entitlement reform, but says it is overshadowed by increased spending, added debt, and higher taxes.

"As a member of this committee and the senate," says Johanns, "I will continue my efforts to do all I can to be a part of the approach to balance the budget rein in spending."

Johanns says he will make efforts to repeal costly mandates, lower taxes, and increase regulatory transparency and accountability.
