Indoor shooting range coming to Gering

Posted: Updated:

The panhandle's only indoor shooting range comes to Gering soon.

The closest indoor shooting range is in Cheyenne, the Owner of the new range, Rich Schank says the new facility will give easier access.

He says his intent is to only have a gun range and no weapons or ammunition will be sold.

The process of opening the range started in February with the zoning part of the project and now they're working on construction.

Schank says they plan to have the range open by mid-June if everything goes according to plan.

He thought of the idea to re-open the old range because it was such a state of the art facility and wanted to reach out to the community about gun education.

He says the community has been very receptive, just 24 hours after putting up their Facebook page this week, they had 100 "likes."

"There are a lot of people who are getting guns now for the first time, we thought that it would be a good place to do education, in first time gun ownership, shooting, practicing as well as concealed carry is another thing that's growing fast," Schank said.

The range would also be used as a training facility for law enforcement and prison guards.
