City of Alliance could take over ownership of Carhenge

Posted: Updated:

The Stonehenge inspired car display just outside of alliance may soon have a new owner.
Carhenge has attracted visitors from all over to marvel at the towering and teetering vehicle art.

But the property has been in limbo in recent months as to who should take ownership and manage the lot.

On Thursday the Alliance Chamber of Commerce approved to endorse the city's acquisition of the property.

Non-profit organization "Friends of Carhenge" have owned the landmark for 26 years, and have attached only one restriction to the sale: that the monument cannot be moved.
The city of Alliance will decide in the next month whether or not to purchase the roadside attraction.
