Gering man denied building permit for tractor repair shop

Posted: Updated:

A Gering man once again is denied by city council to build a tractor repair shop in the city.
Terry Jessen has been to the council numerous times, with hopes for an approval to build his shop right off the Gering/Scottsbluff highway.

Concerns raised by the council are about the repair shop's location in proximity to the city's wellhead.

The city engineer says with the several plans Jessen has submitted, he cannot 100% guarantee that there won't be any contamination to the wellhead.
"If you can't come to an agreement with the city engineer there's no reason you should be here," council member Jill McFarland told Jessen's lawyer Steven Huff on Monday night.
"I think he (Jessen) is doing his part and trying to do the engineering to make sure the wellhead is protected," said Huff.
Gering Mayor Edwin Mayo says the city's number one priority is to protect the wellhead.
