Several Panhandle men are behind bars for breaking into several places in Gering.

Derek Smith and 18-year-old Aaron Ott are both charged with burglary and first degree criminal trespass.

Court documents say that the men broke into a business on 10th Street in Gering and found a gun in a desk drawer. It adds that Smith and Ott were going to go back to steal the gun and trade it for an ounce of marijuana.

Earlier this month, it was discovered that the duo allegedly broke into Gering Jr. High School to smoke marijuana. A maintenance person verified that lights and a fan had been left on overnight.

Ott is scheduled to appear in court today for his arraignment, while Smith has a hearing set for July 15th.
