WNCC hosts day camp for local kids

Posted: Updated:

It may be the middle of summer but some local students are back in the classroom to learn fundamental skills by building robots.

All this week, Western Nebraska Community College hosted a robotics camp for area middle schoolers.

The kids utilized technology from a computer program and text books to build their robot.

Kids made sure their creations could move, spin, and even respond to voice commands.

Rod Businga, the camp's instructor, says building robots can teach kids good life lessons.

"This is an opportunity for them not only to build a robot but to use what we call STEM, science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The kids learn how to attack a problem, how to solve problems, how to think logically those kinds of things."

Businga hopes to offer similar programs for the local students throughout the year.
