Gering City Council to look into city firework ordinance

Posted: Updated:

The Gering City Council says it will look into amending the city's firework ordinance.
Some Gering residents voiced concerns to the city council Monday night, about the amount of Fourth of July fireworks going off in city streets.

Residents say the fireworks disturb pets and homeowners, litter the streets, heighten the risk of fire,  and cause damage to homes.

With the New Year holiday opening up firework season once again, city leaders say it's time to look at the city ordinance to see what can be done.
"This was an extraordinary year for fireworks and I believe we ought to set some better regulations," said council member Don Christiansen.
One resident suggested there be a designated place to light off fireworks, so fire crews will be on hand and cleanup will be easier.
