Michael Scott found guilty on meth possession charge

Posted: Updated:

It took jurors less than one hour to render a guilty verdict against 43-year-old Michael Scott on one count of possession of a controlled substance.

Scott was arrested in November after allegedly robbing Valley Bank and Trust. When police searched a residence to find Scott, officers found a baggy with .7 grams of methamphetamine.

Sentencing for this Class IV felony has been scheduled for September 30th at 3 p.m.

County Attorney Doug Warner says that the trial for his alleged involvement in the Valley Bank and Trust robbery will take place during the September jury term.

There was some discrepancy late this morning when Scott accused one of the jurors of falling asleep during testimony from a witness. Judge Lippstreu called the juror to testify whether or not she was asleep. She claims that she was awake and writing notes with her head down.

Defense Attorney Bernie Straetker asked for a mistrial due to the discrepancy, but that motion was denied.
