Concerns after Chadron School Board hires teacher at school where her father is principal

Posted: Updated:

A KOTA Territory school board approves the hiring of a new teacher, but the vote is not unanimous.

Chadron High School will be ringing–in the school year with some new staff, including teacher Rachel Mack.

One member of the Chadron School Board, Doctor David Johnson, voted against the new English teacher, due to conflict of interest.

Rachel Mack is the daughter of high school principal Jerry Mack.

Chadron Superintendent Dr. Caroline Winchester, says she has no comment on the reason behind Johnson's vote, but adds that Mack is well-qualified and the district is very excited to have her.

Dr. Winchester says the Chadron School District is looking to fill one more position for a part time 'English as Second language' teacher.  Interviews are expected to begin in coming weeks.
